interior design

i visited my friend john's house the other day after lunch at ted's bulletin...his place is fantastic! this remodeled church on capitol hill is a multi-unit multi-level condominium building with 14 foot ceilings and fantastic light through the large windows, perfect for displaying his trophy heads (he's from texas) and lovely artwork.
he also has a nice hat collection.

what watt?

i love this 'what watt' chandelier by designer tim fishlockmade up of 1243 suspended incandescent lamps  of various shape and size, the chandelier is illuminated by a single low-energy light source. By 2011, all forms of incandescent light bulb will be phased out in favor of greener alternatives. tim says, "What Watt? marks the passing of a beautiful design that has remained relatively unchanged since its invention 130 years ago."  he plans on producing a total of ten.

dont re-cycle, up-cycle!

from the contemporist comes this flower-shaped chair constructed of pet bottles on a stainless frame: pretty, but functional? bottles can be swapped out when they become compressed, says artist pawel grunert, who designed it for the 'eco trans pop' exhibition in milan. not that i am all matchy-matchy, but the chair coordinates well with sarah turner's awesome light fixtures.

woodland tree coffee table

the jardim paulista residence by brazilian architect arthur casas is a nice modern dwelling, but what really caught my eye was that awesome slab o'tree coffee table: that is gorgeous! i just had my not-quite-as-large-or-diseased red oak cut down and i wish i had a slice as nice!

pretty in pink

usually i am not in favor of colored fixtures...but these look great in that all white display. yes, i think i like these, especially the shower basin. my grandmother would have wanted them in her house, which was ...pink!

trend alert: shades of yellow are hot!

colourlovers is one of my favorite blogs: they are a social-networking site for design enthusiasts and cover real-time color trends as generated by it's users. its a really cool place and inspirational, design-wise. yellow had been a hot fashion color all year and continues to rise in the home furnishings market. colourlovers gives examples! i like it: my living room is a gorgeous shade of sunflower!

international contemporary furniture fair

back in the day i used to take the train from dc to nyc for the icff
that is what the internet is for!
if i were going, i would spend a lot of time in the icff studio, hanging with joel escalona's dancing tables.
