living social

last weekend the mister and i took a trip to the eastern shore. we left on rainy saturday and first drove to cambridge to drop off my brother-in-law's bike at an old friend's place.
their house is a beautiful 18th century mansion...
a true period piece.
we took a quick tour of the town, and ended up at the maryland boat builder's show, which was cool!
after the show we drove up to oxford where we had a social living deal at a bed and breakfast on the tred avon river. it may have been a bit chilly, but the views were lovely from the old screened in porch.
after dinner at the robert morris inn, we walked back to the b&b...
and retired early to our room with the claw footed tub.
sunday check out was noon, so we snacked on the breakfast basket...
then took a leisurly drive to st. michael's for lunch at the
inn at perry cabin.

afterwards we drove to the tip of tilghman island
...and then made our way home back to dc.

huge meteor misses east coast

wow: from my view, the meteor hit somewhere near the potomac in charles county at about 12:40pm on valentine's day this week, but it actually fell into the ocean...this time...yeah: i saw it while driving on route 301 on the harry nice bridge leaving virginia, heading into maryland...of course: no one believed me, but i saw what i saw...and what i saw was something (fairly) large...on fire...headed toward the ground at a high rate of speed...sooo glad i am not alone!

shop local: washington dc

i pretty much only shop on etsy these days: i love supporting the handmade community and i get great stuff. shopping on etsy is really easy...customizable, also! the 'shop local' feature is one of my favorites: whether you want to buy something from someone close to you...or close to someone else...or last minute...the locater on etsy rocks! here is a diverse treasury of dc local artists put together by the very fabulous trillium. find talent in you own town and buy it!

day 40: design something every day

so, yeah: i am definitely designing something new every day...the last few days of confinement have produced a renovation plan for my little 100+ year old house: an addition is imminent! we need to move our bedroom off of the 6-lane highway called university boulevard...and we need more than one restroom in the house: really. there are issues with our property line, so i am waiting to hear back from the civil engineer...cant wait to move forward!

taste of bethesda

hungry, yet? every restaurant in bethesda is participating in this year's taste: that's like a zillion restaurants, right? when i moved to the area from berkeley (aka, "the gourmet ghetto"), there was a swensen's ice cream , shakey's pizza...the crab house: not exactly 'foodie town'. times have changed and you should enjoy the town's bounty today 11-4, if you can find parking.

merry go round

the last day of real-feel summer must be the last day the carousel spins: celebrate the end of the season (or the beginning of fall!) with a trip to the historic glen echo merry-go-round. it wont be making the rounds again til next spring:( the carousal is circa 1921: this is the end of the 89th season: who knows if there will be another!

remember last monday?

last monday i was sitting here watching snow fall to the tune of six inches...today: 70°!
it was a long, cold week that ended in a brilliant weekend here in washington, d.c.
friday night we road metro to union station and attended the dc independent film festival for the opening of borf! followed by drinks and indian food outdoors at the white tiger on capitol hill. saturday i had to take oto on a long walk and short swim because it was so nice and warm out. i headed to visarts in rockville to view a kawasaki motorcycle that is the subject of an art competition to benefit the art center. i dont know if i am going to be able to come up with anything interesting for the proposal, but i do have a few concepts i am going to sketch out. (i will keep you posted!) we decided to head to the eastern market to buy up as much fresh raviolis as we could carry home. i think we got eight different flavors. i freeze them and use them for quick meals during the week. kind of awesome. before we headed home, we grabbed burgers, fries and mini toasted marshmallow shakes from good stuff eatery, owned and operated by top chef's chef spike. he happened to be there, working the grill! during a break he stopped and talked to us for a while, then took pictures with thrilled tourists and locals alike. spike was very hospitable and cool. i chilled at home saturday night so i could work in my front yard sunday, trying to regain a little curb appeal! too tired to cook dinner after laying down fifteen bags of mulch, we grabbed amazing carry out pizzas from comet ping pong. i completed random paperwork and required reading about 3a.m., and...here we are at monday again!
i have the week planned out and hope to get a lot accomplished in my studio, my home, my garden, my life, my cyberspace. good luck!
