quick halloween costume for dogs

DO NOT make your dog into a bunch of grapes-or anything else-for halloween, why would anyone do this to a beast who gives nothing but unconditional love? NOT COOL! (yes: shouting).

last minute halloween costume for baby

some people should not have children. this guy thinks he has 3-fer: halloween costume, diaper, pumpkin seeds...uhmm...maybe someone should call the police?

marine corps marathon street closures

today is the the 34th annual marine corps marathon! its too late to enter the people's marathon (ahhh!) but you could cheer these hardcore athletes on...or watch it on tv...or just avoid the traffic jams due to street closures in the area. i heard a spa is trying to set the guinness book of world record for foot massage by rubbing 400+ feet (200 people) of the runners. super stinky!

awesome etsy, who hosts my herban elements and high contrast on-line shops, held a contest to see who could create the best handmade moment video for use in future advertising campaigns. daniel kwan won the competition and a check for $3250: congrats, dan! all of the entries were great, however: better than most large pr houses could produce.

hello, cupcake!

i made cupcakes today: first time ever! they turned out great: there are 2 of 12 left. i tried some fun flavors. i made lemon cake with lime frosting; fresh strawberry with strawberry icing; caramel with chocolate, and toffee with toffee frosting. delicious. please dont tell my friend penny, though: she owns hello cupcake at dupont circle and makes the best cupcakes, ever. much lighter and fluffier than this novice can bake with the yummiest icings around!

house on haunted hill scavenger hunt

tonite artist andrew wodzianski opens his latest painting exhibit inspired by the 50th anniversary of the campy film "house on haunted hill" at flashpoint gallery in penn quarter. the opening runs 6-8 and includes a funerary performance: that sounds like fun! though the film was released in 1959, andrew kicks it up to the minute at midnight by tweeting details of an audience participation scavenger hunt that runs throughout october, culminating in a costume house party on friday the 30th with non-stop pbr. sounds scary!

draconids meteor shower for date night

inspired by the president and first lady, i struggle to come up with some brilliant plan for weekly date night with the mister, which actually hasnt happened yet, but will soon, i am sure! so, my idea for tonight is pretty budget-conscious, especially for me. i thought i could meet him at his office in georgetown around 5:15 (now!) we could cruise down to the kennedy center's millennium stage for a concert by the russian throat singers (?) the khogzhumchu ensemble @ 6:00: sounds a bit odd, but i am game for anything! i picked up some yumminess from whole foods: if the winds die down after sunset, i thought we cold walk toward the mall in front of the lincoln memorial and have a picnic, followed by front row seats at the draconids meteor shower. better grab a jacket!

liberty farmer's market

penn quarter in dc is one of my favorite neighborhoods. i have been clubbing there since the 80's (?)...the national portrait gallery and museum of american art are there, as are hundreds of great restaurants and bars...i love basketball and the verizon center is on the corner. i do a great art show, the downtown holiday market there in december. the cowgirl creamery cheese shop rocks! the one thing they don't have there is a raw food source: a grocery store. welcome, liberty market! liberty market is a new farmer's market open tuesdays from 2:30-6:30 at the corner of 7th & k streets on the grounds of the historic society of washington, dc at mt. vernon square. help promote community sustainability by supporting your local farmers, musicians and artists!

laptop and iphone skins

laptop and iphone skins
my macbook pro is two years old and is a little knicked, so i have been thinking about getting a custom skin for it...that and i have seen multiple blog postings and ads in the last few days on the subject. there are a lot of cool options out there and companies like gelaskins employ some amazing artists and graphic designers, or you can customize it with your own design: the options are limitless! here is a great posting from weburbanist on the latest trends.

taste of bethesda

hungry, yet? every restaurant in bethesda is participating in this year's taste: that's like a zillion restaurants, right? when i moved to the area from berkeley (aka, "the gourmet ghetto"), there was a swensen's ice cream , shakey's pizza...the crab house: not exactly 'foodie town'. times have changed and you should enjoy the town's bounty today 11-4, if you can find parking.

tgiff!

hey, yo: it's friday, people! it has been a busy week here in the nation's capitol...let's take a few moments to stop, drop and roll! nothing is more beautiful (not even paris: sorry, sister!) then the national monuments at night, so join a guided bike tour with sites@nite starting at the old post office pavilion @ 6:30, and leisurely peddle from site to site. they provide everything for about $35 a person. my word of warning DO NOT stop up the street at zola's for their happy hour prior to the ride!
